From Disappearance To Death

Jerry Michael Williams born October 16, 1969, was an American killed by his wife.

Mike Williams married Denise Williams in 1994.

He was fond of duck hunting.

On December 16, 2000, on the day of his 6th wedding anniversary, he traveled out to pursue his hobby. Convinced his wife he’d be back in time for the anniversary celebration. He traveled for hunting ducks and never returned.

The investigation and rescue team discovered his boat and shotgun the following day, but he was nowhere to be discovered.

Initial conclusions were that he may have drowned, but his corpse could not be discovered. Since the lake inhabited alligators, the charge was on cold-blooded animals. It was concluded that he fell off his boat and was digested by the gators. Mike remained on the ‘disappeared list’ though.

Six months later his waders, torch, hunting permission, and safety jacket were discovered floating in the lake.

On his spouse Denise’s request, he was announced: “dead by accidental drowning.”

She wedded another man, Brian Winchester, in December 2005. He was Mike’s high school class fellow and an Insurance agent.

Thousands of letters from Mike’s mother and the case was reopened. She just didn’t realize her son had vanished and was digested by the animals. By then, it was obvious to the detectives that alligators don’t eat man as a whole, and they don’t even eat during winters.

So, this pointed towards some important foul play. There was no proof to charge anyone, however.

After sixteen years of no proof, the police caught Brian Winchester in August 2016 for allegedly abducting Denise. He did so because she wanted a separation.

At Denise’s petition, the judge decided to turn down Winchester’s bail request. She told them he would murder her and her daughter.

On December 19, 2017, Winchester was sentenced to 20 years in jail for the armed abduction of Denise. The following day, on December 20, Mike’s remains were discovered.

In May 2018, Denise Williams was caught under the charge of first-degree killing. Three months later, in August, she was charged with an insurance crime worth $1.75 million.

The matter got into the trial stage, and Winchester testified against Denise for planning the murder. He said the court he pushed Mike into the lake to make it look like an accident, but it didn’t work. So, he shot him in the head and buried his corpse in the dirt near Carr Lake.

Denise, in February 2019, was convicted to life imprisonment for first-degree killing and the following 30 years for conspiring the murder. There is no chance of parole.

Winchester, though the murderer, remained clear from killing conviction because he testified against Denise.

The only flaw in this crime was planting the proof six months later. All of that was untouched. No clues of gators' tooth or blood on any of the recovered items. The torch worked fine.

And then asking to announce him dead within six months of his disappearance. Usually, it takes five years or more to get it finished.

It took about 2600 letters to the governments from a loving mother to uncover the killer of her son after more than 18 years of his disappearance.
