William George Heirens, also known as "The Lipstick Killer" was an American serial killer who was active between 1945-1946 in Chicago, Illinois.

Heirens was a cold-hearted and conscious killer, having prowled 3 women and penetrated their apartment as they slept, not to take valuables (all were left behind) or for any other reason but to seek blood. His technique of killing was largely strangulation and brutal stabbings

He became known as "The Lipstick Killer" after he scribbled the haunting message below on his 2nd casualty's wall.

Upon his detention on June 26th of 1946, Heirens was arrested trying to break-in into the apartment of what police thought would have been his 4th victim, but he was sighted and disappeared but was arrested a short distance down the street. Police heavily whip him and interviewed him about the killings in the region, even going as far as to use sodium pentothal (truth serum) on Heirens without authorization or Heirens consent

Under the sedative, Heirens admitted to the killings but asserted it was a life-long alter ego of his, George Murman, who he has been struggling since childhood, that did the killings.

However, he was found guilty of all 3 killings on the 5th of September, 1946, and punished to 3 consecutive life terms, one for each victim. He perished in 2012 as one of Chicago's lengthiest incarcerated prisoners, 65 years behind bars. He was 83 years old.
