What happened to Natalee Holloway?

Natalee Holloway was enjoying her life; a successful high school graduate, she was awarded a full-ride scholarship by the University of Alabama, and most devastating of all; innocent girl, trusting, and admired by so many.

“Woo-hoo! I’m in Aruba!” Natalee’s roommates remember her emotion as she drives off into the warm, Aruban sea air with three local boys that would be the last to see her alive. One must be shocked: Did Natalee have the most beautiful night of her life walking, visiting the local casino, and celebrating her recent high school graduation with mates? Natalee Holloway, born on October 21, 1986, was newly graduated from Mountain Brook High School in Mountain Brook, Alabama. Natalee was everything you would want in a well-rounded, truthful, and excited young lady. Because of hard work and commitment, Natalee was awarded a full-ride scholarship by the University of Alabama. To enjoy her newfound achievements, Natalee took off on a trip with more than 100 other students to Aruba in the Caribbean islands.

The journey was a success: all of the students who followed had an amazing time enjoying their coming into adulthood. Still, on May 30, 2005, Natalee failed to come out for her flight residence.

When Natalee Holloway was supposed to be missing, Aruban authority tested the three boys that were last to see Natalee alive: a Dutch boy, Joran van der Sloot and local Aruban brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. Leading up to Natalee’s disappearance, it was believed that she began the night of her disappearance in the Holiday Inn casino that she and her buddies purchased all-inclusive holidays. While at the tables, drinking her drink, Natalee notices a man who sees her eye: Joran, and he is supported by the Kalpoe brothers, Satish and Deepak. After Natalee moves toward Joran, she begins to invite him out to eat and dancing at a local club named Carlos’n Charlie’s. It has not been assumed whether or not Natalee was drinking that night, but her family declares that she was never a celebrator and always had her head on right. Once Ms. Holloway and the three boys arrive at the club they stay there until the bar closes. The men agree that they want to go for a journey around in their car and Natalee asks if she can come along. Joran, Deepak, Satish, and Natalee moved away from the club and Natalee disappeared.

When Joran is questioned by the officers, he originally declares he took Natalee to the shore and left her at a local fishermen’s cabin. Still, when the officer interview the fishermen it is determined that the men were at the cabin at the time Joran declared that he took Natalee there. The men were at the cabin from midnight to 4:30 a.m. and claim they would have to be “blind and deaf” to have missed Natalee and Joran being by the cabin that night. Once police confront Joran about the lies in his story, he changes it: he then declares that he took Natalee back to his residence and wanted to have sex with her, then phoned a cab to send her back to her hotel. Once Natalee left Carlos’n Charlie’s on May 29, 2005, her whereabouts leading up to her missing is unknown.

Four major theories have been determined by police. The first hypothesis is that discoveries from conversations involving Joran claiming to buy hotel rooms for the sole act of recording weak young women make the chance of him being affiliated with the local business owner/porn chief, Mr. Pink is very reasonable. Still, Mr. Pink was never fully interrogated. After an initial meeting with him, it was never verified that the two were related.

Belief number two involves a local Aruban Dj: Deejay Diablo or ‘Steve’. Steve worked on a party boat named “The Tattoo.” Steve approached police as a voluntary witness declaring he saw Natalee being dropped off by Joran and the Kalpoe brothers but the video of CCTV shows no clue of Natalee anywhere in the hotel that night. Why would an honest man come forward as an observer just to tell an untruth about where and when she was last seen? When inquired for his alibi Steve claims that he picked his friend Terry up around 11:30 p.m. on May 29, 2005, and went to a club named ‘Choose a Name’ and does not remember ever going to Carlos’n Charlie’s. Still, staff from Carlos’n Charlie’s claim Steve was there, and much earlier than he says- around 10:00 p.m. Steve says he partied until about 4:30 a.m. Bars close at 2:00 a.m. so where was Steve in between the hours of 2:00 and 4:30 police claim it reasonable that due to him having entry to a boat, in the duration he had a gap in his alibi he could have been helping Joran and the Kalpoe brothers dispose of Natalee’s corpse in the ocean.

Theory number three appears from a woman who was attacked at the very same fishermen’s cabin nine days before here Joran professes to have dropped Natalee off on May 29, 2005. Tracey Allen was wandering around the fishermen’s cabin on May 20, 2005, when a naked man pulls up his car, blocks her way to her hotel, and tries to abduct and sexually assault her. A combined sketch was made and Allen was able to recognize her perpetrator from a lineup. He was caught and because of a prior conviction being appealed and miscommunication with the justice department, he was discharged. By the time police understand the mistake, he had already disappeared from the country and has not been seen since.

The final theory is that Aruban police are attempting to cover up for a poor investigation. Through hotel records, it was reported that Natalee’s room key was used many times between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., about two hours after Natalee’s journey went cold. Authority never interviewed the four other roommates to see if they went on to switch room keys with Natalee and maybe resulted in it registering to her using the key. Due to police waiting until weeks after Natalee vanished to pull the security footage, all of it was eliminated and there was no way to verify Joran van der Sloot’s claims to dropping her off at the shore. Joran was later convicted in 2010 for the killing of a Peruvian business student. To this day, no one has been arrested for the disappearance of Natalie.

The case of Natalee Holloway remains unsolved.
