The Mysterious Death of Blair Adams (1996)

Blair Adams was discovered beaten to death and half-naked in a parking lot in Knoxville, Tennessee. Scattered around his corpse was German, Canadian, and U.S. currency which was nearly $4k.

Lieutenant Jones remembered the gruesome crime scene:

“His jeans were removed in a way, not like somebody would take their jeans off, but in a way that somebody else would remove your jeans from you. His socks were twisted inside out. His shoes were off and his shirt was cut open.”

Blair Adams was originally from British Columbia where he labored in construction. A few weeks before his murder he started showing bizarre behavior. He had serious mood swings and when he met his mother, he denied telling her what was occurring mentioning “her safety” as the explanation. A few days before his murder, he withdrew the $6k he had in savings along with thousands more in jewelry and chose to travel to the U.S through the Canadian border. He then purchased a one-way ticket to Washington DC. Upon his entrance, he moved 500 miles southwest to Knoxville TN. He had no justification to be in the US, but his general behavior was incredibly different.

Upon his arrival in TN, CCTV footage confirmed him renting a room in a hotel, half a mile from where his corpse was discovered. The motel’s security camera showed that in the space of an hour, Blair went in and out of the lobby five times before eventually paying for the room. After checking in, Blair took the key to his room. But instead of moving to his room, he walked out the front door and never came back.

According to the postmortem report, Blair had sustained many slashes and bruises. Police thought some of the wounds came from fending off an assault. Blair was finally murdered by a violent blow that ruptured his stomach. His murderer was never arrested and there has been no information uncovered that justified his weird behavior and who he was running from.
