Brandon Swanson was born on January 30, 1989, in Minnesota. He studied at Minnesota West Community and Technical Campus in Canby.

Brandon was planning on getting on to Iowa Western Community College. On May 13th 2008 his classes finished and he had huge plans for the evening with his companions.

He went to one of his friend's home in Lynd. There were just 4 other friends there. His friends remembered him only having one drink.

He then got on to another friend's home in Canby to say goodbye. He reached around 11 pm. People at the home contends he only had one shot of whiskey.

He decided to go home which was a simple way back since he drove it every day on his way to class. For some intention, nonetheless, he decided not to go the simple way and went through backstreets rather.

These backstreets were gravel roads and not very nicely lit. It was also very zigzagging and it would not be hard to get lost even without having a drink or two. Brandon also had the difficulty of being legally blind in one of his eyes.

At 1:15 am he got his car stuck. He phoned his friends to come to pick him up, but no one responded to his phone calls. A half an hour after getting stuck he called his parents Brian and Annette Swanson

His parents were near to where he specified he was so they climbed in their car to come and pick him up. When they got there nonetheless Brandon was nowhere to be glimpsed.

He and his parents began to argue over the phone because they could not glimpse each other. They flickered their car lights hoping he would see it, but he didn't. He finally got frustrated with them and hung up the phone.

23 minutes later his parents called him and Brandon informed them that he could glimpse the city lights of Lynd and was stepping towards it.

He clarified to his dad that he could hear water running and he also had to climb two fences. At 3:10 am he yelled out "Oh Shit" and the phone call ended.

At 6:30 am Brian and Annette called the police to report their son missing. The Lynd police did zero at the beginning, saying Brandon's parents it was regular for a college student to vanish for a while.

When the police finally decided to perform their job they looked at phone records. To see where precisely Brandon was when he made the phone calls to his parents.

It turns out that he was 40 kilometres from where he said he was, which clarifies why he and his parents couldn't discover each other.

They did discover his car and it was clasped in an embankment as Brandon said. There was one dog who picked up Brandon's scent and directed them a few kilometres to a vacant driveway of a farm.

The dog then got on to the Yellow Medicine River and then got on to a gravel road where the dog missed Brandon's scent.

On this 2 and a half-mile path that the dog steered them through they passed 2 fences and also the river. It took them about the exact time as what Brandon was on his phone with his father for. So it appeared that this was the path Brandon walked.

What I discover sadly is that his parents still leave their light on every night wishing that their son would one day be discovered. They were also so near to discovering him that night.

In 2009 a bill was passed named Brandon's Law which notes that the police has to scour for a missing individual, not just a missing kid instantly.

To this day the case is unsolved. There are assumptions such as he passed away, because of hypothermia or there was a sinkhole. Some people doubt foul play, but there is no proof of any of this.
