The Strange Disappearance Of Maura Murray

On the sunset of February 9th, 2004, a citizen of Woodsville, New Hampshire, saw a car crash on the Route 112 highway. The car driver was 21-year-old Maura Murray, a busy nursing student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

When the observer ran to Maura’s car to support her, she was instantly dismissed by Maura, who claimed that she had already called for roadside service. An open wine box lay on the passenger seat, and red wine-colored the car’s upholstery. Now anxious, the observer called emergency services and headed to his home. When authority officers came to the scene less than 20 minutes later, Maura Murray had disappeared.

This is where the case begins to get strange; The circumstances leading up to Maura’s disappearance are as weird as they are painful. For a beginning, Maura had emailed her university professors and boss on the day of her disappearance, saying that she wanted a week off due to the unexpected death in the family. Still, this was not the case. According to her family, there was no sudden death. On Thursday, February 5th, just four days before she disappeared, Maura broke down shouting at her campus security job and reportedly “zoned out” for hours. and then eventually, two days before she vanished, she hit her dad’s Toyota Corolla into a guard fence, causing around 10,000 dollars worth of destruction. It is mysterious whether or not she was driving under the impact. The last discussion that Maura had with her family, was in the form of a phone call with her dad who instructed her to receive the accident forms for the crash. They decided to discuss again on Monday, possibly neither of them realizing that Monday would be the last day Maura Murray was seen active.

In the years since her disappearance, there has only been one possible sighting of Maura. A contractor coming back home from job explained a young person running along the highway some 4 miles away from where Maura was last observed. The supposed sighting aside, something odd has happened, something that arguably strengthens a whole new level of puzzle to the case. On February 8th, 2012, a YouTube channel owner by the name of 112DirtBag published a video, named simply “HAPPY ANNIVERSARY”.

Although this may just be another case of cruel internet trolling, or a random stranger having some entertainment, there’s no denying that there are some odd coincidences. For example, the video was published a day before the 8th anniversary of Maura’s disappearance, and the user’s name also includes the name of the highway she crashed on, (112). Despite the assumption, there is no way of understanding for sure if the weird video is related to the case, although the man’s YouTube account mysteriously deactivated and he has never been formally recognized.
