His name is Wu Yongning.

Wu Yongning was an internet sensation who performed terrifying stunts atop tall buildings — and garnered a legion of fans. His videos, which often showed the popular stuntman hanging dangerously by his arms or legs high above the ground, racked up millions of views.

A Beijing News inquiry found that Mr. Wu had posted more than 500 short videos and live streams on Huoshan, garnering a million fans and earning at least 550,000 yuan (£62,000; $83,000).

As you can see, this Chinese daredevil has a hobby to take selfies from skyscrapers without the use of safety gear. He relies mostly on his background in martial arts and building to do these stunts. With so much success, let’s ask him why safety isn’t a concern for him.

Although he had plenty of experience “rooftopping,” he wasn’t prepared for what would happen if he lost his grip. So, unfortunately, this stunt led to Wu Yongning’s death.

 The tragedy

(Read here a strange Case of disappearance, In 1991 a man from Romania, disappeared without a trace after leaving for a business trip. Fast forward to August 2021, a car stops in front of his family home and drops the now 93-year-old off. He has a good appearance and can’t remember where he’s been for the past 30 years. Check here details)

The thrill-seeker posted stomach-flipping footage of hanging off treacherously tall buildings and structures and gained lucrative sponsorship deals for doing so.

He lost his life after falling from a skyscraper in Changsha, capital of Hunan province while making a selfie video in a bid to win.

On November 8, 2017, at the age of 26, the daredevil slipped from the edge of a skyscraper where he fell 62 stories to his death. The backstory is heartbreaking to even type for me. Wu, allegedly, did this final stunt to win $15,000 in prize money. What he would have done with the money is to help his sick mother get treatment and fund his wedding. The sad part, for me, is that Wu was going to propose to his girlfriend the day after filming this stunt which, unfortunately, never happened. Below are the moments leading to his death:

This is why safety is so important in life.
