Two women, Rosana Candido and Kacyla Pessoa, have confessed to the brutal murder of Rhuan da Silva Castro in Brazil.

Rosana Candido, 27, and Kacyla Pessoa, 28

The victim, who was sleeping at the family home he shared with his mother and Pessoa's daughter, was attacked by the women as he slept. Candido stabbed the victim 11 times in the chest and eyes, while Pessoa held him down. The women then beheaded the victim and dismembered his body, including skinning his face. They attempted to burn the remains on a grill, but ultimately packed them into bags and abandoned them. The police were alerted after two young boys saw Candido disposing of a suitcase containing the remains near a nursery and opened it out of curiosity, revealing the victim's head with a knife still stuck in it.

The couple, Rosana Candido and Jorge Pessoa, were arrested at their home after confessing to police that Candido had killed her son, Rhaun, out of hatred and a lack of love for him. Candido reportedly admitted to regularly torturing the child both physically and psychologically. According to the police officer in charge of the case, Candido had a vindictive nature and compared herself to the God of justice in the Old Testament. The murder was motivated by Candido's dislike for her son's paternal family. The couple had previously lived in Rio Branco, but Rhaun's father reported that Candido had run away with the boy around five years ago. Pessoa's daughter, who is believed to have witnessed Rhaun's killing, is also reported missing by other family members around the same time.

She has since returned to Rio Branco to live with her father.

Candido and Pessoa were jailed for 65 and 64 years respectively for the savage murder.

Speaking after the sentencing, Rhaun's father, Maycon Douglas Lima de Castro, told local media: "It's still too little, but at least they will never leave the jail again."
