We read about different criminals daily. They do many strange and cruel things to get money. But the man we are talking about today, thought an amazing idea to receive healthcare.

James Verone

In 2011, 59-year-old James Verone from North Carolina with no criminal record held up RBC bank for only $1 because he wanted to go to jail to receive healthcare. James Verone robbed the RBC Bank in North Carolina in 2011 for $1. He’d never had any problem with the authorities before the robbery. He was jobless and dealing with serious health problems. He stepped into the bank and gave the teller a note that explained “This is a bank robbery. Please give me $1.” Then, he just stood at the bank entrance and waited for the police to come. The poor man didn’t have any health care and at 59-years -old was in poor health condition. He had a growth on his chest, two ruptured disks, and a problem with his left foot.

Reason

Verone said he committed the crime because he thought prison would be the best place for him to get medical attention. He made sure to make it known that he robbed the bank for medical reasons, not monetary ones. He didn’t use a weapon during the robbery and hoped to get three years in prison and receive continued medical help.
