The story of the Mauerova family:

It is a shocking and strange story involving cannibalism, child abuse, identity theft, and cults. This case sounds just like the story of some Quentin Tarantino film but what happened in this family is very much serious and true.

Klara Mauerova from Kurim in the Czech Republic often informed people that she was destined to complete a task for God. Her sister, Katerina, had a goal too, she told. Klara went on to have two beautiful sons – Ondrej and Jakub. The father of the sons finally left Klara because of her unusual behavior. However, Klara was explained to be a good mother in the beginning and would often be seen playing with her two sons. But, after the breakup, Klara and her sons then shifted in with her sister, Katerina.

The sisters then became gracious with 33-year-old Barbora Skrlova, an award-winning classical musician. Barbora had a glandular disorder that made her look much younger than she was. People often misunderstood her as a child. However, Barbora utilized this to her advantage. Prone to getting in trouble with the rule, Barbora often posed as a minor to avoid accusations being filed.

Before arriving in the Czech Republic from Scandinavia, Barbora posed – and even became valid – as a 13-year-old girl called Anicka.

Quickly after the three women met one-another, they attended a religious cult commanded by Barbora’s father, known as “The Grail Movement.” The cult explained the belief that their people could get into paradise by doing good acts. Still, they also thought that they were forgiven to commit crimes.

The three women started a storm of mental and physical on 8-year-old Ondrej and 9-year-old Jakub. The two boys were locked in a cell in the basement where they stayed for a year.

During that year, they were stripped and got no sheets or anything comfortable to lay on. They were starved, tortured, beaten, and sexually attacked. Also, the boys were burned with cigarettes, given electric shocks, cut with forks, crushed, and almost drowned.

The boys were forced to slice themselves with blades. When they weren’t kept in the cell, they would be handcuffed to a table and forced to sit on their urine for days. If either boy vomited, they would be threatened to eat it.

It was shortly decided they would force-feed them prisoners to make them increase weight. After gaining some weight, the women held Ondej down and skinned his leg as he cried and begged. The three women then ate the raw meat. They did the same to Jakub and even threatened the boys to eat their flesh. Now, when they weren’t being beaten, they were being chewed alive.

The abuse was finally discovered by chance in early May of 2007 when a neighbor’s television baby monitor picked up graphic videos from the scene. Klara had established the television system so that she could watch the torture from another cabin. The neighbor noticed Ondrej with his hands tied behind his back, lying nude on the floor.

The neighbor phoned the police who came to the scene and saved Ondrej and Jakub. They also “rescued” another young girl who identified herself as their 13-year-old sister, Anicka. The brothers and young girl were brought to a children’s house before it was eventually realized that Anicka was Barbora.

Before authority got a chance to charge her, she escaped to Norway where she took up a new identity as a 13-year-old boy named Adam. In Oslo, Barbora shaved her head and got admission in a school.

Eight months later, Barbora was finally discovered by the authority. Following the charges, all of the women turned on each other. Klara declared that she had been brainwashed by a doctor who sent her text messages advising her what abuse and torture to commit on her sons. Police later found that the phone number of the so-called doctor was owned by Katerina.

Barbora also declared that she was innocent and that she too had been tortured by the sisters but the court did not accept her statements.

According to prosecutors, the goal of the torture and abuse was to break the boys and enslave them for spiritual goals. While the three women were part of “The Grail Movement,” clearly, they had divided and were establishing their cult. It was this breakaway followers that called for members to verify their commitment through physical devotion.

Klara was sentenced to 9 years in jail, Katherina was sentenced to 10 years in jail and Barbora Skrlova was sentenced to 5 years in jail. They have all since been paroled.
