Serial Killer: Ahmad Suradji

The cattle-breeder from Indonesia confessed to murdering 42 girls and women between 1986 to 1997. As a part of his ritual, he used to bury them waist-deep. Corpses were discovered in a sugarcane field with their heads facing his house, which he thought would give him more strength. Suraj was sentenced to death by a firing squad in 2008.

Ahmad Suradji, The so-called Sorcerer

Ahmad was Born January 10, 1949, in Medan, Indonesia. On May 2, 1997, self-described Indonesian witch doctor Ahmad Suradji was caught by authorities after three corpses were discovered buried in a sugarcane plantation near his home on the outskirts of Medan, the capital of North Sumatra, Indonesia.

Ahmad, also known as Nasib Kelewang or Datuk Maringgi, originally admitted to murdering 16 women over a five-year carnage period. Upon additional searching of Ahmad"s property, clothes and watches relating to 25 missing women were disclosed. After further interviewing the 48-year-old cattle breeder boosted the body count of his 11-year rampage to 42. Ahmad"s three spouses, all sisters, were also caught for helping him commit the killings and hiding/or disposing of the bodies. The oldest wife, Tumini, was tried as his confederate in his 11-year rampage.

The self-proclaimed sorcerer was honoured by locals who thought he had paranormal powers and frequently asked him for medical and spiritual guidance. Many women would pay him to cast magic spells to maintain the faithfulness of their husbands or boyfriends. Neighbours told that many women wanted the sorcerer"s help to speculate they would become richer, healthier and more sexually desirable to men. Police think the casualties, ages ranging from 11 to 30, may have been too ashamed to tell their families that they were seeking the sorcerer"s help so their disappearances were not associated to him. A great deal of the fatalities were prostitutes.

This serial killer would charge each victim $200 to $400, (for his so-called sorcery guidance lol )then he would take them to a sugarcane plantation near his house and bury them in the ground up to their waist as part of a magic ritual. Once in the ground, he would continue to suffocate each woman with an electrical cable. Then he would drink their saliva, undress their body and rebury them with their heads indicating to his home so that he would strengthen his magical powers. Suraj told police that nine years before he had a dream in which the ghost of his father said him to murder 70 women and drink their saliva to become a Dukan or magical healer, he admitted to the authorities.

The supposed sorcerer, Ahmad Suradji, was told to be widely regarded in his village. Neighbours told he was frequently ready to help sick villagers and contribute to generous causes. Nasib, who led police to the corpses in the field next to his home, told officers he wanted to kill up to 70 women to increase paranormal/supernatural powers. The unearthing of 40 bodies confirm to Nasib"s true dementia, police have asked local inhabitants to report any more missing women and children. About 80 families in the region have reported female relatives missing, directing to fears that more corpses could be revealed in the future.

During the prosecutions, both Suradji and (wife #1) Tumini, rejected the slayings, saying they admitted because they could no longer suffer the torture by interrogators. On April 27, 1998, an Indonesian court in North Sumatra found the pro-claimed sorcerer guilty of Indonesia"s terrible killing spree. As the last of the 42 corpses were being unearthed, the fatal sorcerer was sentenced to death by firing squad.
