Teenagers sentenced to life in prison after attempting to decapitate a man by hacking at him with a samurai sword over 100 times!!

During the attack, the boys appeared to "make a concerted effort to saw the head from the shoulders," Leeds Crown Court heard.

In a "frenzied and senseless attack" in Huddersfield in January,2020, Kiyran Earnshaw, 18, and Luke Gaukroger, 16, admitted to murdering Robert Wilson.

Earnshaw and Gaukroger were loitering outside the Thornton and Ross Pharmaceutical facility when Mr. Wilson, 53, approached them.

The teenagers later passed a 20-inch blue samurai sword between them in a 10-minute attack, according to CCTV footage shown in court.

Gaukroger, who was 15 at the time, was heard shouting "get his head, I want to cut his head, Kia, I want to cut his head" on audio recorded from the factory supervisor's phone call to a security firm during the attack.

The recording of Mr. Wilson pleading with the youths to stop the attack was also played at Leeds Crown Court.

Earnshaw was the first to start hacking at Mr. Wilson after producing the weapon from his tracksuit bottoms, according to prosecutor Peter Makepeace.

Gaukroger could be heard saying "pass me the shank, pass me the shank," according to the prosecutor.

Earnshaw allegedly passed the sword to the younger adolescent after delivering multiple blows and kicks to Mr. Wilson, according to Mr. Makepeace.

The prosecutor went on to say that the two took a breather and then rifled through Mr. Wilson's pockets, stealing his coat.

Earnshaw and Gaukroger held the sword together, crouched near Mr. Wilson's body, and appeared to "make a concerted effort to saw the head from the shoulders," according to Mr. Makepeace.

"Both then use their combined force to stab the upper body," he continued.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw one of the two "using the sword in a sawing motion to the deceased's neck area, as if attempting to detach the head from the body."

Earnshaw was Tasered twice before being arrested, according to Mr. Makepeace, and officers used incapacitant spray on Gaukroger.

Mr. Wilson had left the facility with his colleagues Paul Thewliss and John Badejo to talk to the youths in the parking park outside the firm.

Mr. Badejo was gravely hurt while attempting to save his friend, according to the prosecutor, and he and Mr. Thewliss were forced to leave for their life.

Before the incident in January, Mr. Makepeace claimed the defendants were spotted taking tablets "washed down with vodka and other beverages" while hanging out with friends in Huddersfield.

Earnshaw was slurring his words, he added, and he was wondering why he had been arrested and complaining about police harassment.

He admitted to officers that he had used cocaine and the sedative Xanax.

Drug testing Earnshaw discovered they were Flualprazolam, a synthetic benzodiazepine comparable to Xanax that causes drowsiness, disorientation, and disinhibition.

Both defendants admitted to murdering Mr. Wilson and inflicting serious bodily harm on Mr. Badejo with the intent to do so.

Earnshaw and Gaukroger were sentenced to life in prison with minimum sentences of 22 years and 16 years and eight months, respectively, by Judge Mr. Justice Lavender.

"How on Earth have we come to this and why?" Elaine Wilson, the widow of the night shift worker, faced the perpetrators in court.

Mrs. Wilson claimed she was appalled when she received a letter from one of the defendants apologizing for the "worst night of my life."

She admitted to the judge that she was surprised to "experience so much hostility."

"I want you to know you have taken the life of a much respected, admired, and good man," Mrs. Wilson told the defendants.

The court heard that Mr. Wilson has two stepchildren and enjoyed gardening, golf, and walking in the Yorkshire Dales.

"As he lay dying, you used the sword in repeated attempts to cut off his head," Mr. Justice Lavender said in sentencing the teenagers.

"You took his life and caused his wife, his two stepchildren, and his other family and friends to suffer for the rest of their lives."

Both juveniles had previously committed violent offenses, according to the judge.

He cited an incident in October 2016 in which Earnshaw stabbed a fellow student at his school twice in the stomach with a knife.
