On Thursday, the police in Poland confirmed that Julia Wendel is not the missing toddler Madeleine McCann, ruling out the possibility. 

This comes after Wendel's family released a statement denying her claims and expressing their devastation over the situation. The Polish news outlet Gazeta reported on the police statement.

Although their investigation is not yet complete, the police have already eliminated the possibility that Wendel is McCann, according to their statement. 

However, the specific details of how they arrived at this conclusion have not been disclosed.

On Thursday, The New York Post stated that Wendel's family was declining to undergo a DNA test to confirm their biological relationship with her. 

According to the Post, Wendel's mother asserted that she could provide evidence of their familial bond through photographs and a birth certificate.

Julia claims to be Madeleine McCann

Over the last week, Wendel gained significant social media attention after posting videos in which she asserted that she is Madeleine McCann , the three-year-old who went missing during a family vacation in Portugal. Wendel claimed that she shared the same eye defect with McCann and cited additional evidence to support her claim.

Wendel stated that her parents had been evasive when it came to discussing her childhood memories, which she claimed were incomplete and blurry. Additionally, she revealed that although her parents had informed her that she attended the same primary school throughout her education, her teacher contradicted this information.

Wendel disclosed that she had been a victim of abuse by a German pedophile during her childhood. She further speculated that this individual could be the same person who was detained in connection with Madeleine McCann's case last year.

According to Wendel, the McCanns contacted her through a representative and requested that she undergo a DNA test to verify her identity as their daughter.

Wendel's family says they know Julia is their daughter

"It is obvious to us as a family that Julia is our daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and stepdaughter," said Wendel's family in a statement posted on the Polish Missing for Years Facebook page. "We have memories, we have pictures."

The statement further stated that Wendel had taken the photographs and her birth certificate from her family's residence, and despite their attempts to intervene, they were unsuccessful in preventing the situation from escalating.

"We always tried to help her get back on her feet," they said. "Julia has been of age for several years. She moved out of the house. She refuses treatment, does not take medication regularly. She also did not take advantage of the possibility of treatment at a very good center in Poland, which agreed to accept her."

Wendel's relatives alleged that she had a long-standing desire to become a celebrity and hinted that she had fabricated her assertions in a bid to achieve notoriety and attract an online audience.
