Possible human remains were discovered in the forest near Flamingo Lakes and Highway 149 by a worker from the Texas Department of Transportation on Tuesday, Feb. 7, according to the MCSO.

Upon the worker's notification, law enforcement was contacted, and MCSO detectives and crime scene investigators arrived at the site to confirm that the discovered bones were human. DNA samples and dental records were collected by investigators for identification purposes..

The body's identity was confirmed on Monday, revealing it to be Johnson's. Houston police had previously suspected her to be a homicide victim.

According to Johnson's relatives, she moved to Houston from San Diego, California in April to work at Cover Girls nightclub. Her cellphone, which was discovered covered in blood, was found by police near Highway 6 and Clay Road, off the road in Bear Creek Pioneers Park.

HPD charged Chukwuebuka Nwobodo, 28, with murder and tampering with evidence on June 9 in connection with the case. Investigators identified Nwobodo as a suspect following the discovery that he had picked Johnson up from an apartment complex located at 3233 Windchase Boulevard, before taking her to his own residence situated at 14935 South Richmond Avenue.

Authorities suspect that Nwobodo murdered Johnson in his apartment and subsequently discarded her personal effects close to Bear Creek Park, before disposing of her body a few days later. Nwobodo is presently not in the custody of HPD.
