In 2013, Jordan Graham, a newlywed, had a heated argument with her husband Cody Johnson while they were at Glacier National Park. During the argument, she pushed Johnson off a cliff. The couple had been dating for two years before deciding to get married in an attempt to strengthen their bond. 

Despite having doubts about the marriage, they tied the knot on June 29, 2013. However, after the wedding, Graham realized that she was no longer in love with Johnson. She discussed her feelings with him, which ultimately led to Johnson's decision to seek an annulment or divorce. However, Graham was afraid of the social backlash of being divorced so soon after their wedding, which further strained their relationship.

On July 7th, a newlywed couple embarked on a hike to Glacier National Park in Montana in an attempt to clear their minds. During their trek, the couple engaged in a heated exchange, during which Johnson held Graham's arm. The situation escalated, and ultimately, Graham pushed Johnson into the 200-foot abyss at the well-known "The Loop" location in the park. Following Johnson's death, Graham initially provided false information to the police, which led to her becoming a suspect. Her conflicting statements further fueled suspicions about her involvement in the tragic incident.

After initially denying any involvement, Graham eventually admitted to killing her husband. As a result, on September 9th, 2013, she was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder and providing false information to law enforcement. Although she pleaded not guilty, on March 27th, 2014, the court found her guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced her to 30 years in prison. Additionally, she received an extra five years for lying to the police.

Graham Realised She Was Not In Love With Her Husband Anymore

Eight days after their wedding, Jordan Graham and Cody Johnson, a newlywed couple, decided to go for a hike in nearby Glacier National Park in Montana. The couple had been facing difficulties in their marriage, and Graham had come to the realization that she was not fully prepared for the commitment she had made.

While hiking, Graham expressed her uncertain feelings about the marriage to her husband, who suggested that they annul it if she was unhappy. However, Graham was worried about the potential social stigma associated with divorce just eight days after their wedding.

During their hike, the couple arrived at a popular spot in the National Park known as "The Loop," where they continued to discuss their marital problems. As the conversation became increasingly heated, both Johnson and Graham became aggressive. According to reports, Johnson grabbed Graham's arm tightly during the argument, and in a moment of recklessness, Graham pushed him off the edge of a 200-foot cliff.
Graham’s Failed Attempt at Dodging The Police

On July 8th, 2013, Cody Johnson was reported missing to the Kalispell Police Department (KPD) after he failed to show up for work and couldn't be located elsewhere. During their investigation, KPD officers interviewed Johnson's newlywed wife, Graham. Initially, Graham provided false information to the police, claiming that the couple had gone out for dinner and that Johnson had received an upsetting phone call on their way home. 
She further stated that Johnson dropped her off at home as her phone was about to die, and then he went for a drive with a friend, as he had informed her via text message. However, Graham had no evidence to support her claims, as she and Johnson regularly deleted their chat history.

On July 10th, one of Graham's friends informed the police that she had confided in him about Johnson's death resulting from falling off a cliff during church services. The following day, the police interviewed Kimberly Martinez, a mutual friend of Graham and Johnson. Martinez revealed that Graham had been struggling in the relationship, as Johnson had expectations that Graham was unable to meet. She also disclosed that a few hours before Johnson's death, Graham had communicated with her via text message, stating:

Graham: Oh well, I’m about to talk to him.

Kimberly: I’ll pray for you guys.

Graham: But dead serious if you don’t hear from me at all again tonight, something happened.

How Did The Police Apprehend Graham?

On July 11th, the Kalispell Police Department identified Johnson's deceased body in Glacier National Park. After interviewing Graham's friends, the police found her statements to be suspicious and inconsistent. Each friend gave a different account of the situation, with one friend claiming to have knowledge of Johnson's death and another describing the couple's strained relationship. Moreover, Graham had been evading the police, which raised suspicions about her involvement in Johnson's death. As a result, the police charged Graham with first-degree murder.
On July 16th, Graham admitted to her offense and confessed to the police that she had accidentally pushed her husband off the cliff after a heated argument. She maintained that it was not a premeditated murder but rather a spontaneous act.

She said: “I just pushed. I wasn’t thinking about where we were.” 

On October 3rd, 2013, the police charged Graham with both first-degree murder and second-degree murder for the killing of her husband, Cody Johnson. She also faced charges of concealing her husband's murder and providing false statements to the authorities.

Eight-Day Bride Sentenced for 30 Years

Graham was taken into custody on September 9th, 2013, on charges of second-degree murder. Her murder trial began in December at Missoula Federal Court, where she entered a plea of not guilty. However, the court rejected her plea. On March 27th, 2014, Graham was sentenced to 30 years in prison and an additional five years for providing false statements to the authorities. She is currently serving her sentence at a federal prison in Alabama.
