An Arlington man who was trying to help a family member sell a car was shot and killed by a thief during a test drive, according to police, who are trying to identify two suspects.

On Tuesday around 6 p.m., the Arlington Police Department received reports from residents regarding an unresponsive man lying in the road in the 700 block of Port Richmond Way.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified him as 55-year-old Khudhair Hamdan.

According to a news release by the police on Wednesday, detectives discovered during their investigation that Hamdan had been assisting a family member in selling a car through a social media application. As per the release, he had agreed to take the interested buyer on a test drive that evening.

After examining witness accounts and video footage, the police stated that two young men arrived at Hamdan's residence to test drive the car. The trio then left together in the vehicle and were traveling along Port Richmond Way when investigators suspect that one of the suspects drew out a gun and shot Hamdan. As a result, Hamdan exited the car and fell to the ground, while the suspects continued driving.

At the intersection of Matlock Road and Sublett Road, behind a nearby shopping center, officers discovered the abandoned vehicle. The detectives are currently attempting to identify the suspects, and as of now, no arrests have been made.

Police have stated that images from the video recording show the suspects walking away from the vehicle, which was captured by surveillance cameras.

Detective Simmons can be contacted at (817) 459-5735 by anyone who believes they can identify the suspects or provide additional information regarding this case. Tipsters can call Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County at (817) 469-8477 to remain anonymous.

The Arlington Police Department is highly recommending community members who engage in buying or selling items through digital marketplaces, especially when dealing with unfamiliar individuals, to utilize the designated safe zones located at one of the department's four patrol stations.
