Nashville School Shooter Allegedly A 28-Year-Old Woman—An Extreme Rarity In Mass Shootings

The recent outbreak of violence at The Covenant School, which is a Presbyterian educational institution catering to approximately 200 children from preschool to sixth grade, is the latest addition to a series of mass shootings that have occurred in the United States.

These tragic incidents have caused a growing sense of unease in the country, especially regarding the alarming frequency of bloodshed within schools.

The person who committed the violent act had two "assault-style" rifles and a pistol with them. The police shot and killed the person, who was from the Nashville area. However, the name of the person has not been shared with the public.  Her motive in the attack has not been determined.

During a news briefing, police spokesperson Don Aaron stated that the shooter entered the school through a side entrance and proceeded to the second floor. The suspect had reportedly created a map of the school, which included possible entry points, and conducted surveillance before carrying out the shooting.

Upon arrival at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the victims from Nashville were declared dead. During the incident, one police officer suffered a hand injury from broken glass.

Meanwhile, some of the students who were not harmed in the shooting were able to leave their school and find safety with the help of the police. They walked hand in hand to a nearby church where they were reunited with their parents.

"I was literally moved to tears to see this and the kids as they were being ushered out of the building," Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake said at an afternoon news conference.

"We have a manifesto, we have some writings that we’re going over that pertain to this date, the actual incident," he said. "We have a map drawn out of how this was all going to take place."

The grade school has 33 teachers, the website said. The school’s website features the motto "Shepherding Hearts, Empowering Minds, Celebrating Childhood."
