In 1984, Petra Pazsitka, a 24-year-old student of computer science, went missing after leaving her residence in Braunschweig, Germany to see a dentist. A man confessed to murdering her, but more than 30 years later, she was discovered alive and in good health.

On the same day, Petra was expected to attend her brother's birthday celebration at their parents' house later that afternoon, but she never appeared. Worried about her well-being, her family members reported her disappearance promptly.

Although authorities were able to trace Petra's last known location to a bus stop, the investigation into her disappearance soon reached a dead end. Her concerned family and friends believed that she had been abducted and murdered by a crazed assailant since her sudden vanishing was uncharacteristic of her. They were convinced that Petra would never have willingly left her loved ones behind.

In 1987, three years after Petra's disappearance, a 19-year-old convicted murderer, identified as Gunter K, made a startling admission to authorities. He claimed responsibility for Petra's death, alleging that he had killed her and disposed of her body in a river. Even though her remains were never recovered, Petra was legally declared deceased two years later, and the case was shut.

After more than thirty years of grieving her loss, there was a stunning breakthrough in the case: Petra was found alive and in good health.

In September 2015, a burglary was reported by a 55-year-old woman in Düsseldorf, Germany who identified herself only as "Mrs. Schneider," but failed to provide any form of identification. During further questioning by the authorities, the woman revealed that she was actually Petra Pazsitka and even presented her student identification card which was 31 years old.

Petra confessed to having carefully planned her own disappearance for several months. She had saved enough money to rent an apartment under a false identity and had been living for years without possessing a bank account, passport, driver's license, or social security card.

Petra's father had already passed away by the time she was found alive in 2015, but her mother and brother were still alive and were equally shocked to discover that she was alive and well. However, Petra did not offer any explanation for why she decided to disappear and start a new life, and she maintained her reluctance to reconnect with her family. As of now, Petra Pazsitka resides in Düsseldorf under her real name.
