After 37 years, the Garland police have finally cracked a long-standing murder case. Through the application of cutting-edge DNA technology, they were able to establish a connection between Liborio Canales and the death of his sister-in-law, Barbara Villareal, which occurred in 1986.

According to the police, Barbara Villareal suffered a brutal stabbing, sustaining multiple wounds, inside a residence in Garland. During the initial investigation, detectives managed to collect blood evidence presumed to be from the perpetrator.

Although Villareal's husband was ruled out as a suspect, the murder case remained unsolved until the present time. However, recent advancements in DNA technology have finally allowed the authorities to crack the case and identify the perpetrator.

Using state-of-the-art DNA tests, investigators made a breakthrough discovery, revealing that the suspect had a close familial relationship with Villareal's husband. Subsequently, they questioned Canales, who is now 85 years old and was residing in New Mexico during the course of the investigation.

Police authorities have reported that Canales has confessed to the crime. During questioning, he revealed to detectives that his motive was rooted in a family dispute with Villareal, which led to the tragic incident. Currently, Canales is being held in New Mexico under a $1 million bond. Plans for his extradition to Dallas County are in progress and expected to take place soon.
