Jennifer Pan was found guilty of organizing a planned attack in 2010, where her mother was killed and her father was injured. To please her strict parents, she faked her school and college records for a long time. Jennifer and her boyfriend, Daniel Wong, intended to have her parents killed and inherit their money when they discovered the truth.

Jennifer Pan's parents, Bich Ha Pan and Huei Hann Pan, moved to Canada from Vietnam as part of the Chinese diaspora. They settled in Scarborough and got married in Toronto. They had two children, Jennifer, born in 1986, and Felix, born in 1989. The Pans both worked at Magna International, a company in Aurora, Ontario, that makes car parts.

Because they were careful with their money, Bich and Hann were able to purchase a spacious house with a two-car garage on a residential street in Markham, a city in the Greater Toronto Area with a sizable Asian community, around the year 2004.

Jennifer's parents had great expectations and ambitions for their children. At the young age of four, Jennifer was enrolled in piano and figure skating classes and practiced diligently until she injured her knee.

She attended Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School in Markham, Ontario, where she altered her grades to make it seem like she was a straight-A student.

After school, Jennifer's parents would closely watch her extracurricular activities. They were strict and didn't let her spend time with boys or go to high school dances, thinking it might distract her. Parties were also off-limits for her. By the time she turned 22, she had never been to a bar, had a drink, or gone on a vacation without her family.

Jennifer kept making fake report cards to make her parents believe she was doing well in school. However, her admission to Ryerson University was canceled when she failed calculus in her senior year of high school. Fearing being seen as a failure, she started lying to everyone, including her parents.

She pretended to be attending college while actually working as a piano teacher, a waitress, and a café worker to support her act.

Jennifer told her parents that she got a scholarship to study pharmacology at the University of Toronto, which was a lie. She went to great lengths to maintain the deception, buying used textbooks and watching pharmacology videos to create fake class notes.

In order to live with her boyfriend, she convinced her parents to let her stay near the university.

Jennifer lied to her parents, saying she was volunteering at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) while pretending to complete her degree at the University of Toronto. Her parents grew suspicious when they couldn't find any proof of her hospital job, like an ID or anything related to her work. Bich decided to secretly follow her to the supposed "workplace" and was extremely angry when she discovered the truth.

Hann was really upset and wanted to kick Jennifer out of the house, but her mother convinced him to let her stay. Jennifer realized she hadn't finished high school due to failing calculus, so she decided to work on completing it. Her parents encouraged her to apply for college too, but they had one condition: she had to break up with her boyfriend, Daniel Chi-Kwong Wong.

Even though they tried to keep their relationship hidden, Wong got tired of hiding and chose to move on. He began dating someone else.

The Hitmen and The Murder

After reuniting, Pan and Wong reportedly came up with a plan to hire hitmen to kill her parents for $10,000, believing she would inherit $500,000 afterward. They wanted to eliminate her parents so they could be together and move in with each other.

Wong introduced her to the hitmen, who carried out the attack on her parents on November 8, 2010.

Before going to bed, Jennifer unlocked the front door of her family house. She then had a conversation with one of the killers, Mylvaganam, on the phone. Shortly after their talk, Mylvaganam and two other people with guns entered the house through the unlocked front door.

The three men took Bich and Hann to the basement, where they were shot multiple times after being asked for all the money in the house. The men also robbed the master bedroom. Hann got injured, while Bich tragically lost her life. After taking all the cash from the house, the three men ran away. Despite being tied up, Pan managed to free her hands and called 911 for help.

Pan had her initial interview with the police the night after the murder. During her third interview at the Markham police station on November 22, 2010, she was taken into custody. In that interview, she admitted to hiring the killers but claimed she wanted them to harm only her and not her parents.

As a result of the crime, Jennifer Pan and her accomplices were given a life sentence with no chance of parole for killing her mother and attempting to kill her father.
