In March 2021, in Michigan, Megan Imirowicz had an argument with her father, Konrad Imirowicz, 64, after he was too intoxicated to drive her to a hair salon appointment ahead of her 18th birthday. According to prosecutors, Imirowicz applied lye powder, a caustic drain-cleaning chemical, to her father while he was asleep, causing severe chemical burns. He was found by one of her friends hours later and taken to the hospital, where he required amputation of both legs, a tracheotomy, skin grafts, and kidney dialysis in an effort to treat his injuries. He died roughly five months later as a result.
Trial and Verdict
Following a four-day trial in June, Imirowicz was found guilty of causing death through the use of a harmful device or irritant. Prosecutors noted that Konrad Imirowicz had a documented history of alcohol use and was intoxicated when he was brought to the hospital.
Sentencing
