A man, who returned to the crime scene after murdering a father of two, has been sentenced to life in prison

In July of last year, Essex Police initiated a murder investigation following a severe assault on a 44-year-old man named Adrian Ellingford at a residence in Chelmsford, England. Ellingford ultimately passed away due to sustaining multiple stab wounds.

Police reported that 26-year-old Marek Hecko, who was heavily intoxicated and holding a bottle of brandy, approached the site of the murder. He then proceeded to inform the officers that he was aware of what had occurred and offered his assistance.

Following his confrontational behavior, he was apprehended on suspicion of murder and subsequently identified as the primary suspect while in custody.

Officials reported that detectives pursued hundreds of leads, and after sifting through numerous pieces of information, Hecko was charged with murder within a matter of days.

"From the moment this was declared a murder investigation, our team worked tirelessly to gather CCTV, statements and compile the evidence needed to charge Hecko," Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe said.

During the trial, Hecko tried to claim that he turned up to the scene after seeing what had happened on the news, "despite the news being nowhere online on social media at this point," police added.

As per the officials, during the court proceedings, it was revealed that Ellingford had been in the company of Hecko's ex-partner on the night of his demise, and that Hecko had displayed patterns of stalking behavior.

During the court proceedings, Ellingford's spouse provided a statement in which she characterized him as an exceptional husband, a devoted son, a considerate brother, a friend to many, and above all, an excellent father.

On March 13, Hecko was convicted of murder at Chelmsford Crown Court and subsequently received a life sentence, with a minimum term of 26 years.

"He was brutally ripped from our lives in events that I still can’t really comprehend myself or begin to explain to our boys," she shared. "The impact of his death has affected many people in very different ways. It is totally heartbreaking."

Detective Chief Inspector Metcalfe remarked, "This was an utterly pointless assault on Adrian, resulting in two children being robbed of their father. My sincere hope is that they can find solace and closure knowing that Hecko has been incarcerated."
