Jung Yoo-Jung, a person from South Korea, moved to Busan five years after finishing high school. She started living alone there. After completing college, she had difficulty finding a job and didn't participate much in activities outside of her studies. She really liked true crime stories and spent most of her time reading and watching content related to them.

In the months leading up to the murder, she borrowed books from the library and spent a lot of time researching online about how to commit murder. Based on the police investigation, she dedicated the three months before the incident to searching the internet for details on suitable locations to hide a body.

Shortly after that, she started planning her own murder and searched for the perfect person to target. She responded to an advertisement for a private school instructor as part of her search for a potential victim.

Using a tutoring app, Jung found her target. She contacted a female English instructor through the app, pretending to be a mother interested in English lessons for her school-aged daughter. Even though she wasn't actually a mother, Jung made up a story to get close to the unnamed victim. They both agreed that the daughter would meet the teacher at her house two days later.

Jung purchased a school uniform from the internet and went to the victim's house in Geumjeong District, Busan. She pretended to be a student so she could have a private tutoring session. Jung, who was 23 years old and small in size, probably looked like a student when she wore her school uniform.

The victim, who was unaware of what was about to happen, opened the door and allowed Jung to enter her house. According to reports, Jung attacked her with a knife, resulting in her death.

After committing the crime, Jung calmly went to a nearby supermarket. There, she bought bleach and large garbage bags to clean up the blood. She returned to the victim's house and proceeded to dismember the body to make it easier to transport.

On the night of the murder, she called a taxi to drive her to Yangsan. There, she disposed of the body parts and the blood-soaked suitcase in a wooded area. The taxi driver found her behavior suspicious and reported her to the police.

Upon receiving the call from the taxi driver, the police promptly arrived in Yangsan. They discovered garbage bags in the area, containing bloody clothing and some of the victim's remains. Following their investigation, they traced the evidence back to the flat where the crime had taken place. There, they uncovered the remaining severed body parts of the victim.

Jung reportedly put some body parts in a suitcase and discarded them

Following the discovery, the Busan Metropolitan Police arrested Jung. The authorities were able to identify her through CCTV footage, which captured her walking alone on a deserted street at night, carrying a small suitcase.

The suspect initially attempted to convince the authorities that the murder was accidental and happened during a heated argument with the victim. However, she later changed her statement and asserted that someone else committed the murder, shifting the blame onto a third party. She admitted her responsibility only for disposing of the body.

Motive

However, later on, she confessed that her fascination with true crime had led her to contemplate and eventually want to "try out" murder. It was her relatives who convinced her to tell the truth to the authorities, and she eventually did.

According to reports, Jung had been researching ways to commit the perfect crime for about three months prior to actually carrying out the murder. The police examined her mobile phone and discovered that she had searched for phrases such as "how to hide a body" and "committing murder without leaving evidence."

The police disclosed that she prepared for the murder by borrowing books from the library and watching shows about real crimes.

She admitted to reporters that she must have acted irrationally when she committed the crime and expressed remorse to the victim's family.

Her grandfather, feeling sorry for having raised such a granddaughter, also apologized on her behalf.

South Korean forensic psychology professor, Lee Soo Jung, commented on the case, stating that he believed Jung Yoo-jung's motive for selecting the particular victim was rooted in envy. He also mentioned the suspect's calm and relaxed behavior, which was observed in the surveillance footage.
